Growing up, she never knew she had a different experience. "I couldn't leave the house without my dad, and I thought that was normal," Anna David, 22, said. David spent most of her childhood in Saudi Arabia where her pale skin and blonde hair left her sticking out. “People would give me candy because they liked the way I looked,” she said. “There I was different.” David now uses her experience as a public speaking teacher at the University of Florida. Keeping an open mind about different cultures helps her communicate with international students. She is working towards her doctorate in audiology.
